11/9/2023 0 Comments Irad consulting seattle![]() The worry is that these seven “strategic investment priorities” define and limit the types of R&D projects that the Pentagon wants to pay for, such that any project that cannot be shoehorned into one of the seven priorities will have its costs disallowed by DCAA and/or DCMA. Contractors have been provided with an April, 2011, letter from then-Secretary of Defense Robert Gates that lists seven “Science and Technology Priorities” for the Defense Department. The first issue is that DOD reviewers seem to be taking a narrow view of what types of IR&D projects might be “of potential interest” to the Pentagon. Reports are beginning to emerge from several large contractors that the reviews are not going as smoothly as one might have hoped. And the project information (and associated costs) will be reviewed by DOD oversight officials to ensure that they are “of potential interest to DoD.”Īnd, unsurprisingly, those reviews are creating some challenges for defense contractors. The rule was finalized recently so that, for the large defense contractors (i.e., those that have more than $11 million in reimbursed IR&D costs), in order to have their IR&D costs be allowable, they must submit annual reports to the Defense Technical Information Center (DTIC). We wrote about the proposed revisions, and commented on the additional conditions they would create for many defense contractors. Carter’s goal was to be implemented through revisions to the DFARS (the Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement). Carter clarified what he meant by the phrase, “encourage effective use of IRAD.” He wrote that the goal was to increase the Pentagon’s focus on contractor IR&D expenditures, so as “to improve the return on IRAD investments for industry and government.”ĭr. Limit B&P allowable costs in sole source contracts and encourage effective use of IRAD.Ī few months later, Dr. Identify and eliminate non-value-added overhead and G&A charged to contracts. Carter’s “Better Buying Power Initiative” objectives were: We first mentioned the issue in July, 2010, right here, where we wrote that two of Dr. Like most everything involving Federal funds these days, DOD has been looking at how it can maximize the bang it receives for contractors’ IR&D bucks. ![]() It’s not easy, especially for defense contractors, who also need to look the supplemental Cost Principles in the DFARS.Īnother emerging challenge for defense contractors has been the Pentagon’s heightened sensitivity to its reimbursement of contractors’ IR&D expenditures. As we commented in the ATK article- The Court had to interpret the FAR 31.205-18 cost principle, CAS 402, and CAS 420 in arriving at its decision. The parties’ contentions turned on the meaning of the phrase ‘required in the performance of a contract.’ Allowable IR&D costs are those that are not required in the performance of a contract, but the issue was whether the words meant ‘specifically’ or ‘expressly’ required, or whether they meant ‘implicitly’ required.Īs you can see, properly accounting for IR&D costs involves inter-leaving the FAR Cost Principles and at least one (and likely more than one) Cost Accounting Standard. Federal government through payment of indirect costs allocated to direct contract costs-generally in the General & Administrative (G&A) expense rate.Īccounting for IR&D costs can be tricky, as we discussed in this article that covered the Appellate decision in the matter of ATK Thiokol, which so far is the leading precedent regarding how to account (and allocate) IR&D expenses. As our readers likely know, defense contractors’ IR&D expenditures are largely (if not entirely) reimbursed by the U.S. They need to, if they are going to compete for next generation-type defense programs. Defense contractors spend considerable amounts on “independent” research and development (IR&D or IRAD) efforts.

In reality, the chances of getting prosecuted for copying a DVD or Blu-ray that you already own are fairly slim, particularly if you’re only creating a copy for personal use. Depending on your location, ripping a DVD or Blu-ray is often illegal, even if you own the disc and are only creating a copy for personal use.īefore transferring your favourite movie or TV show from a physical disc to your Mac, you should always check local laws and the small print on the DVD or Blu-ray case, to see whether its contents are under any form of copyright protection, such as DRM (Digital Rights Management). There’s countless external drives on the market that you attach to your Mac’s USB port in exactly the same way as attaching a USB stick or external keyboard. Once the video is present on their hard drive, you can transfer it to your Mac using any of the usual methods, such as sending it wirelessly over Bluetooth or AirDrop, via online sharing services such as DropBox, or using a USB stick. By ripping a DVD or Blu-ray, you can ensure that you always have easy access to your favourite TV shows and movies. However, if you do ever want to play a DVD or Blu-ray on your Mac, then it can be incredibly frustrating to have the disc and your Mac physically in front of you, with no way of getting the two to communicate. With the rise of streaming-on-demand services like YouTube, Netflix and Amazon Instant Video, your Mac’s lack of a physical DVD drive might never become an issue. Since Apple made the decision to remove disc drives from their laptops, watching a movie or TV show on your Mac isn’t always the easiest thing in the world! 11/9/2023 0 Comments Flexible dieting food list![]() These long-term, flexible dietary behaviors allow for higher levels of self-regulation, less disinhibition and lower binge eating behaviors. Additionally, it reduces the effect of food cravings and allows the dieter to adjust their daily food consumption without compensatory behaviors that negatively affect long-term weight maintenance. Previous literature has shown how flexible control positively impacts weight loss, partly from the absence of overeating typically characterized by rigid control. Īlternatively, flexible control is marked by a more moderate approach to dieting behaviors. In concert with this, Palascha and colleagues concluded that holding dichotomous beliefs about food and eating may be linked to a rigid dietary restraint, which in turn impedes people's ability to maintain a healthy weight. Further, rigid restraint allows little to no variation of food choices, has been associated with higher levels of non-planning compulsiveness and less successful weight maintenance. This switching off phenomena commonly results in increased levels of disinhibition (overeating), binging, or setbacks. Rigid control is associated with a dichotomous mindset, in that an individual displays an “on or off” mentality and any slight deviation from the plan can cause the individual to switch “off” the diet. Individuals adopting rigid control of their diet will eliminate “forbidden” foods from their daily food intake, thereby narrowing the variety of foods ingested. Rigid control typically represents an all-or-nothing approach to an individual’s eating behaviors and attitudes toward dieting, while ultimately (negatively) influencing their weight while flexible control typically represents a more moderate approach to those behaviors. Westenhoefer suggested that cognitive restraint can be divided into two categories, identified as ‘rigid control’ and ‘flexible control’. In addition to understanding the importance of creating a calorie deficit is the recognition that some extent of cognitive restraint must be instilled on the part of the dieter to achieve successful weight loss. ![]() Regardless of what may or may not be optimal from a physiological perspective, an emerging body of evidence suggests that adherence to a diet, regardless of the type of diet, is an important factor in weight loss success. ![]() Optimal approaches to weight loss and weight loss maintenance from a physiological perspective are currently unknown. If this vital criterion is not first met, an individual will fail in their weight loss efforts. To achieve successful weight loss, an individual must develop and maintain dietary patterns that create a caloric deficit. These adaptations inevitably cause weight regain if permanent lifestyle changes are not created. Diet-restricted weight loss creates a host of distinct biological adaptations, including but not limited to increased hunger, decreased satiety, suppressed energy expenditure, and altered levels of circulating hormones known to influence weight loss and maintenance. Such outcomes support the contention that some view weight loss as a transient period of time and do not recognize the necessity for permanent lifestyle and dietary habit change. 11/9/2023 0 Comments Deadbolt lockDepending on which screws are at the root of the issue, you may need to remove the thumb turn assembly or other external parts to access and tighten the set screws. This problem requires only a screwdriver or two to resolve. Misalignment prevents the deadbolt from extending fully into the strike plate, leaving your door vulnerable to unwanted entry. Some of these screws may loosen over time, causing the deadbolt to shift and become misaligned with the strike plate. How to Fix a Turning Cylinder in a Deadbolt Lock How to Fix a Sticky or Jammed Deadbolt LockĤ. For a resource to troubleshoot deadbolt repair, look no further than this guide on how to fix a deadbolt lock.ġ. Malfunctioning deadbolts can bring frustration at the least and exposure to safety risks at the worst. Whether you are a homeowner, contractor, or business owner, a functioning door lock is vital for a safe, secure building. Some areas have fire safety codes that do not allow a locked exit.Deadbolt is the first line of defense in home and office security. Note that single cylinder dead locks (with an unlocked twist mechanism on the inside of the door) do not have this problem, and therefore are most commonly used on fire exits. Some fire departments suggest putting the key on a small nail or screw near the door at floor level, since the cleanest air is at floor level and one may be crawling to get to the exit, thus placing the key where it is easiest to find. The risk can be mitigated by locking the deadlock only when there are no occupants inside the building, or leaving the key near the keyhole. This is often an avoidable cause of death in house fires. In the event of a fire, occupants will be prevented from escaping through double-cylinder locked doors unless the correct key is used. The double cylinder design raises a safety issue. Single cylinder with removable thumb-turn.Push-button deadbolt (mechanical or electrical).Exit-only function (no external cylinder).Classroom-function (thumb-turn only unlocks door).Vertical deadbolts resist jimmying, in which an intruder inserts a crowbar between the door and the jamb and attempts to pry the bolt out of the door. Ī variant of the standard deadbolt is the vertical deadbolt, invented by Samuel Segal. Some lock manufacturers also have a "lockable" knob: a key is always needed on one side (usually external), and a twist knob can be used on the other (internal), unless a button has been pressed, in which case a key is also needed on the internal side. Double cylinder locks are sometimes banned from areas because they can be difficult to open from the inside and violate fire safety regulations. This prevents unwanted unlocking of the door by forced access to the interior twist knob (via a nearby window, for example). Double cylinder locks will accept a key on both sides and therefore do not require (and often do not have) any twist knob. A single cylinder deadlock will accept a key on one side of the lock, but is operated by a twist knob on the other side. A deadbolt is often used to complement a spring-bolt lock on an entry door to a building.Ī deadlock, if it is cylinder operated, may be either single cylinder or double cylinder. A deadbolt can therefore make a door more resistant to entry without the correct key, as well as make the door more resistant to forced entry. The more common spring bolt lock uses a spring to hold the bolt in place, allowing retraction by applying force to the bolt itself. It is distinct from a spring bolt lock because a deadbolt can only be opened by a key or handle. Then, using a key from either side of the door, a bolt is thrown into the door frame, thus securing the door. Door with two locks, one in the doorknob and a separate deadbolt.Ī deadbolt or deadlock is a type of lock morticed into a wooden door. ![]() For other uses, see Deadlock (disambiguation). 11/9/2023 0 Comments Jungle klipped![]() The lyrics suggest that they are willing to engage in criminal activities and use violence to protect themselves, their property, and their power.
